On October 1, Consul General Nawata visited NIT Karnataka in Mangalore and exchanged views with the university’s senior officials. The university is a highly selective and popular institution, with 1.4 million applicants each year. While the university already has a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kagoshima University and Kumamoto University to promote educational exchanges, there also appears to be a proposal to launch a “Friends of Japan Club” for students interested in learning about Japanese culture and the Japanese language. The Consul General hopes that interest in Japan at the university will grow and that Japan-India relations will be further strengthened.
