Conferring of a decoration to a Bengalurean involved in exchanges between Japan and India
The Government of Japan has decided to award the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays to Ms. Shyamala Ganesh, the former President of the Bengaluru Chapter of Ohara-ryu Ikebana. This decision to confer the decoration is the first of its kind since the establishment of the Consulate-General of Japan in Bengaluru.
It was decided to confer this decoration to Mrs. Ganesh as it was recognized that she contributed to the spread of the Japanese language and culture in Karnataka and other parts of India, through Japanese language education, the spread of Ikebana that is Japanese flower arrangement, through hosting events of cultural introductions of Japan and India, and hosting exchange events, and also because it was recognized that she contributed to promoting the friendship and goodwill between Japan and India.
